SpotterPal (operated by Veridiar, "we," "us," or "our") provides the SpotterPal mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you use the App, its home-screen and lock-screen widgets, and its companion Apple Watch app. By accessing or using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect information necessary to authenticate your identity, including your email address, display name, and authentication provider (e.g., email/password, Google Sign-In, or Sign in with Apple). We do not store your passwords; authentication is handled by Firebase Authentication, a third-party service operated by Google LLC. We also store your device timezone (auto-detected) so we can deliver notifications at the correct local time, and your selected "personality" preference, which determines the tone of in-app copy and notification messages.

1.2 Profile and Onboarding Data

The first time you use the App, you complete a short onboarding flow that asks for:

  • Height (in centimeters or feet/inches; we store the value in centimeters).
  • Weight (in kilograms or pounds; we store the value in kilograms).
  • Activity level (sedentary, lightly active, active, or very active).
  • Fitness goal (lose fat, maintain health, build muscle, or improve performance).

We use this information to compute a personalized daily protein-goal recommendation. The values, the computed goal in grams, and an onboarding-completion timestamp are stored on our servers and associated with your account. You can edit your protein goal at any time in Settings. We do not share this data with Apple HealthKit (the App does not integrate with HealthKit), and we do not sell or rent it.

1.3 Nutrition and Meal Entries

The App allows you to log protein intake and meal entries. This includes meal type (breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snack), protein content in grams, food item names, the method of entry (manual input, barcode scan, or food search), and the timestamp of each entry. We also derive and store aggregate statistics from your entries, including your current goal-hit streak (consecutive-day count) and weekly protein totals, so we can display them in the App, on widgets, and on your Apple Watch. Saved favorite foods and custom foods you create are also stored and associated with your account.

1.4 Barcode and Camera Data

If you use the barcode scanning feature, the App accesses your device camera to read product barcodes. The barcode value (UPC) is sent to our servers and to the FatSecret nutrition API to retrieve nutritional information. We do not store images captured by the camera, and the camera is not accessed for any other purpose.

1.5 Notification Data

If you enable push notifications, we collect and store on our servers:

  • A Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) device token for each device on which you've installed the App, so we can deliver push notifications via Apple Push Notification service (APNs).
  • Your per-type notification preferences: meal reminders, streak protection, win-back reminders, and weekly summary digest.
  • Your configured quiet-hours window (start and end times) during which we will not send notifications.
  • A short notification-delivery log used to deduplicate messages so you don't receive the same digest or reminder twice. These records are purged after 90 days.

Custom meal reminders you schedule are stored locally on your device only and are delivered by iOS; they are not transmitted to our servers. You can disable any notification type in Settings → Notifications inside the App, or disable all SpotterPal notifications in iPhone Settings → Notifications → SpotterPal.

1.6 Device-Local Data for Widgets and Apple Watch

To render home-screen widgets, lock-screen widgets, and your paired Apple Watch app quickly and offline, the App stores a snapshot of your current data in a shared iOS App Group container (identifier "group.com.veridiar.spotterpal"). The snapshot includes: today's consumed protein grams, your daily goal, your current streak, today's quip, your selected personality, your subscription tier (free or Pro), and the snapshot's update timestamp. The same snapshot is sent to your paired Apple Watch via Apple's WatchConnectivity framework. This data is a copy of information already stored on our servers; it never leaves your device(s) outside of that flow.

If you are a Pro subscriber and have enabled the streak-countdown Live Activity, we additionally store an Apple-issued push token on our servers, scoped to that specific Live Activity. The token is used solely to push real-time countdown updates to your lock screen via Apple Push Notification service (APNs). The token is deleted when the Live Activity ends (at midnight in your local timezone, when you hit your goal, or when you dismiss the activity).

1.7 Subscription and Purchase Data

If you purchase a Pro subscription, payment processing is handled entirely by Apple (via the App Store) and RevenueCat, Inc. We do not collect or store your credit card number, billing address, or other financial payment information. We receive from RevenueCat an entitlement tier ("FREE" or "PRO"), a subscription expiration timestamp, and a RevenueCat customer identifier linked to your account, so we can determine which Pro features to enable.

If you start a free trial of the Pro subscription, we additionally receive from RevenueCat the trial period type ("TRIAL" vs "NORMAL") and end date so we can display your trial status in Settings and send you a reminder before the trial ends. You can disable trial-ending reminders at any time in Settings → Notifications.

1.8 Automatically Collected Information

When you use the App, our servers automatically log basic technical information including your IP address, request timestamp, request path, and HTTP user-agent string for security, rate-limiting, and debugging purposes. Firebase Authentication and Firebase Cloud Messaging may also collect device-level identifiers as described in Google's privacy policy. We do not use any third-party analytics SDK (such as Mixpanel or Amplitude) at this time.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the App and its features, including protein tracking, food search, barcode scanning, widgets, and the Apple Watch app;
  • Authenticate your identity and manage your account;
  • Compute and recommend a personalized daily protein goal based on your onboarding profile;
  • Send you the notifications you have opted into (meal reminders, streak protection, win-back, weekly digest), respecting your quiet hours and timezone;
  • Personalize in-app copy, notification text, and the daily "quip" based on the personality preference you select;
  • Render your data on home-screen widgets, lock-screen widgets, and your paired Apple Watch;
  • Process and manage your subscription status;
  • Respond to your inquiries and provide customer support;
  • Monitor and analyze usage trends to improve the App;
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues, fraud, or security breaches;
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations.

3. Third-Party Services

We rely on the following third-party service providers to operate the App. Each provider has its own privacy policy governing the use of your data:

  • Firebase (Google LLC) — Authentication and push-notification delivery via Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM), which in turn routes messages through Apple Push Notification service (APNs). See Google's Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
  • FatSecret — Nutrition data and food database API. Barcode values and search queries are transmitted to FatSecret to retrieve nutritional information. FatSecret responses are cached briefly on our servers (no longer than 24 hours), shared across users, to reduce repeat lookups, as permitted by FatSecret's terms.
  • RevenueCat, Inc. — In-app subscription management. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy at https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy.
  • Apple Inc. — Payment processing (via the App Store), push notification delivery (via APNs), and device-to-device sync (via the WatchConnectivity framework). See Apple's Privacy Policy at https://www.apple.com/privacy.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes.

4. Sensitive Health Information

Some of the data you provide — including your height, weight, activity level, fitness goal, and daily protein intake — may qualify as health-related information under certain laws (such as GDPR Article 9 or the California Consumer Privacy Act). We use this information solely to provide the App's core functionality: computing your protein-goal recommendation, tracking your progress, sending the notifications you've enabled, and displaying your stats on widgets and your Apple Watch.

The App does not integrate with Apple HealthKit; we do not read from or write to HealthKit. We do not sell, share, or use your health-related information for advertising. We do not disclose it to third parties except as strictly necessary to operate the App (e.g., transmitting food search queries to FatSecret, or storing your encrypted data with our infrastructure providers).

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information and nutrition data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the App's services. Notification delivery logs are purged after 90 days. Cached food-search results are retained no longer than 24 hours. If you delete your account, we will delete your profile, onboarding, nutrition, notification, custom food, and subscription-related data within thirty (30) days; your Firebase Authentication account will also be deleted. Retention beyond 30 days only applies where required by applicable law or legitimate business purposes (e.g., resolving disputes, enforcing agreements, or complying with legal obligations).

6. Data Security

We implement commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit (TLS/SSL) and secure server infrastructure. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: You may request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
  • Deletion: You may request deletion of your personal data, subject to certain legal exceptions, by tapping "Delete Account" in Settings.
  • Data Portability: You may request a machine-readable copy of your data where technically feasible.
  • Notification preferences: You may disable any notification type in Settings → Notifications, or disable all SpotterPal notifications in your iPhone's Settings → Notifications → SpotterPal.
  • Opt-Out: You may opt out of certain data collection by adjusting your device settings or discontinuing use of specific features (e.g., revoking camera access disables barcode scanning).

8. Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child without parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

9. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence, including the United States, where our servers and third-party service providers are located. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from those in your jurisdiction. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to these countries.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this policy and, where required by law, provide additional notice (such as an in-app notification). Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.

Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the SpotterPal mobile application (the "App") operated by Veridiar ("we," "us," or "our"). The Terms also cover your use of the App's home-screen and lock-screen widgets and its companion Apple Watch app. By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age (or the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction, whichever is greater) to use the App. By using the App, you represent and warrant that you meet this eligibility requirement. If you are under the age of 18, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.

2. Account Registration

To use certain features of the App, you must create an account using a valid email address, Google Sign-In, or Sign in with Apple. You agree to provide accurate and complete information during registration and to keep your account credentials secure. You are solely responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.

3. Description of the Service

SpotterPal is a protein tracking application that allows you to log daily protein intake through manual entry, barcode scanning, and food search. The App also provides: a one-time onboarding flow that computes a personalized daily protein-goal recommendation from your self-reported height, weight, activity level, and fitness goal; consecutive-day streak tracking and weekly statistics; personality-flavored in-app copy and notification messages (you choose from preset personalities); push notifications for meal reminders, streak protection, win-back, and a weekly summary digest; home-screen widgets (small, medium, and large), lock-screen widgets, and a companion Apple Watch app with complications; and a "Pro" subscription that unlocks paid features such as food search, barcode scanning, and widgets. The App provides nutritional information sourced from third-party databases and is intended as a general wellness tool.

4. Medical Disclaimer

THE APP IS NOT A MEDICAL DEVICE AND IS NOT INTENDED TO DIAGNOSE, TREAT, CURE, OR PREVENT ANY DISEASE OR MEDICAL CONDITION. The nutritional information provided through the App is for general informational purposes only and should not be construed as professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Nutritional data is sourced from third-party databases and may contain inaccuracies or be incomplete.

The personalized daily protein-goal recommendation produced by the App is generated using simplified formulas applied to the self-reported height, weight, activity level, and fitness goal you provide during onboarding. We do not validate the accuracy of these self-reported values, and the recommendation has not been reviewed or approved by a medical professional. It is intended as a general starting point only.

The App is not appropriate for individuals with eating disorders, kidney disease, diabetes, pregnancy-related dietary requirements, or any other medical condition that requires monitored macronutrient intake, without first consulting a qualified healthcare professional. If you have any such condition, do not rely on the App's goal recommendations or tracking for medical purposes.

You should always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making dietary changes or relying on nutritional data for health-related decisions. We expressly disclaim any liability arising from your reliance on the information provided through the App.

5. Subscriptions and Payments

5.1 Free and Pro Tiers

The App offers a free tier with basic functionality and a Pro tier with additional features. Pro subscriptions are available as auto-renewing subscriptions through the Apple App Store.

A 7-day free trial may be offered on the yearly Pro subscription. Eligibility is determined by Apple based on your Apple ID's purchase history (one free trial per Apple ID per subscription group, per Apple's policy). At the end of the trial, your subscription will automatically convert to a paid yearly subscription at the displayed price, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. You can cancel at any time through your App Store Account Settings or by tapping "Manage Subscription" in the App's Settings.

5.2 Billing and Auto-Renewal

All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. By purchasing a Pro subscription, you agree to Apple's terms of service and payment policies. The current subscription title, length (e.g., monthly or annual), and price per period are displayed in the App's paywall at the point of purchase.

Payment will be charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. Your subscription will automatically renew unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the then-current subscription price, unless you change your subscription plan.

You can manage your subscriptions and turn off auto-renewal at any time by going to your App Store Account Settings after purchase. The App also provides a "Manage Subscription" button in Settings that deep-links you to the App Store subscription management screen. Cancellation of the current subscription period is not allowed once the period has been paid for — partial refunds are not offered for unused portions.

Pro subscriptions are eligible for Apple Family Sharing per Apple's standard handling, if you enable Family Sharing on your account.

5.3 Cancellation and Refunds

You may cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID account settings, or by tapping "Manage Subscription" in the App's Settings (which deep-links you to the App Store subscription screen). Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you will retain Pro access until that date. No partial refunds are provided for unused portions of a subscription period. Refund requests must be directed to Apple in accordance with their refund policies.

5.4 Price Changes

We reserve the right to change subscription pricing at any time. Any price changes will apply to the next billing cycle following notice of the change. Continued use of the Pro tier after a price change constitutes acceptance of the new pricing.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws or regulations;
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the App, other user accounts, or our servers and infrastructure;
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code of the App;
  • Interfere with or disrupt the operation of the App or the servers or networks connected to it;
  • Use automated systems, bots, or scripts to access or interact with the App without our prior written consent;
  • Use the App to transmit malicious code, viruses, or any other harmful content;
  • Misrepresent your identity or impersonate any person or entity;
  • Submit deliberately false profile data (e.g., grossly inaccurate height, weight, activity level, or fitness goal) for purposes other than personal protein tracking;
  • Use the barcode scanner, food search, or any other feature to bulk-extract data from third-party nutrition providers or otherwise scrape or republish their data;
  • Share, sell, or otherwise transfer your account access to another person.

7. Intellectual Property

The App and all associated content, features, and functionality — including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, icons, software, and design elements — are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these Terms.

You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, create derivative works of, publicly display, or otherwise exploit any portion of the App without our prior written consent.

8. User Content

You retain ownership of the data you submit through the App, including: meal entries and protein logs; profile and onboarding data (height, weight, activity level, fitness goal); custom foods you create; favorite foods you save; custom meal reminders you schedule; and your selected personality preference. By submitting content, you grant us a limited, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, store, process, and display that data solely for the purpose of providing and improving the App's services on your behalf — including rendering it on your home-screen widgets, lock-screen widgets, and paired Apple Watch. We will not share your individual nutrition or profile data with third parties except as described in our Privacy Policy.

9. Third-Party Services

The App integrates with the following third-party services: Firebase (Google LLC) for authentication and push-notification delivery via Firebase Cloud Messaging, which in turn routes through Apple Push Notification service (APNs); FatSecret for nutrition data and food search; RevenueCat, Inc. for in-app subscription management; and Apple Inc. for payment processing (via the App Store), push notification delivery (via APNs), and device-to-device sync (via the WatchConnectivity framework). Your use of the App may be subject to the terms and policies of these third-party providers. We are not responsible for the accuracy, availability, or reliability of third-party services or the data they provide.

10. Notifications and Personality-Based Copy

The App can send push notifications including meal reminders, streak protection, win-back reminders, and a weekly summary digest. By enabling notifications, you consent to receive them. You may disable any notification type at any time in Settings → Notifications inside the App, or disable all SpotterPal notifications in iPhone Settings → Notifications → SpotterPal.

You can select a personality preference (such as Coach, Trainer, Hype, Drill Sergeant, Comedian, Dark Comedy, or Sass) that determines the tone of in-app copy and notification messages. Depending on the personality you select, messages may be edgy, sarcastic, deadpan, or use mild adult humor. You can switch personalities at any time in Settings.

We deliver notifications via Firebase Cloud Messaging and APNs; we cannot guarantee timely delivery, which depends on your device, network conditions, and Apple's infrastructure. Notifications respect your quiet-hours preference and your selected timezone.

Pro subscribers may also enable a streak-countdown Live Activity on the iOS lock screen and Dynamic Island. When enabled and eligibility conditions are met (active streak, behind today's goal in the evening), the App starts a Live Activity that updates in real time via ActivityKit push tokens. The Live Activity ends automatically at midnight in your local timezone, when you hit your goal, or when you dismiss it from the lock screen. You can disable the Live Activity at any time in Settings → Notifications.

11. Apple App Store Standard EULA Acknowledgment

You acknowledge and agree that:

  • These Terms are concluded between you and Veridiar only, and not with Apple Inc. ("Apple"). Apple is not responsible for the App or its content.
  • Apple has no obligation whatsoever to furnish any maintenance or support services with respect to the App.
  • In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) for the App to you. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple will have no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the App.
  • Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims by you or any third party relating to the App or your possession and use of it, including but not limited to product liability claims, claims that the App fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection or similar legislation.
  • Apple, and Apple's subsidiaries, are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and upon your acceptance of these Terms, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary of these Terms.
  • You represent and warrant that you are not located in a country that is subject to a U.S. Government embargo, or that has been designated by the U.S. Government as a "terrorist supporting" country, and you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

12. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, SECURE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS. WE MAKE NO WARRANTY REGARDING THE ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, OR RELIABILITY OF ANY NUTRITIONAL DATA OR INFORMATION PROVIDED THROUGH THE APP.

WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT (A) STREAK OR GOAL COMPUTATIONS ARE ACCURATE OR APPROPRIATE FOR ANY USER'S SPECIFIC NEEDS; (B) PUSH NOTIFICATIONS WILL BE DELIVERED PROMPTLY OR AT ALL, AS DELIVERY DEPENDS ON NETWORK AND CARRIER CONDITIONS AND THIRD-PARTY INFRASTRUCTURE (FCM AND APNS); OR (C) HOME-SCREEN WIDGETS, LOCK-SCREEN WIDGETS, OR THE APPLE WATCH APP WILL REFLECT THE LATEST DATA AT ALL TIMES, AS THESE SURFACES OPERATE ON A BEST-EFFORT SYNC BASIS.

13. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL WE, OUR DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, OR AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE APP, REGARDLESS OF THE CAUSE OF ACTION OR THE THEORY OF LIABILITY (WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE), EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE APP SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR FIFTY DOLLARS ($50.00), WHICHEVER IS GREATER.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless SpotterPal, its operator Veridiar, and their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your use of the App; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) your violation of any third-party rights; or (d) any content you submit through the App.

15. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account and access to the App at any time, with or without cause and with or without notice, including if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases immediately. Sections 4 (Medical Disclaimer), 7 (Intellectual Property), 11 (Apple App Store Standard EULA Acknowledgment), 12 (Disclaimer of Warranties), 13 (Limitation of Liability), 14 (Indemnification), 16 (Governing Law and Dispute Resolution), and 17 (General Provisions) shall survive termination.

You may delete your account at any time by tapping "Delete Account" in Settings. Account deletion is irreversible and removes your profile, nutrition entries, subscription state, and notification preferences within 30 days as described in our Privacy Policy.

16. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the App shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco County, California, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of such courts.

17. General Provisions

  • Entire Agreement: These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and SpotterPal regarding your use of the App.
  • Severability: If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
  • Waiver: Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.
